The heritage tree of the state has been declared worldwide as largest and biggest Chinar tree. The Park in which the tree exists has also been developed. The shrine of Hazrat Qasim Sahib is also existing alongwith the tree. It is believed the tree was planted in 1329 AD and is around 700 years old. Large number of tourists visit the place particularly those who are fond of Chinars and its history in Kashmir. For its successful discovery Dr Wadoo was awarded by various environmental agencies at national and international level. He had traveled throughout the state and had measured around 30000 Chinars to determine its dimension. The Chattergam Chinar is more precious tree at present and erection of shops around the tree have started causing injury to this heritage tree which has been a cause of its titling.
