| DB issues notice to state in PIL for DRA implementation | | | EARLY TIMES
JAMMU, Sept 03: A state high court division bench of Justice Virender Singh and Justice Hasnain Massodi today issue notice to state and others in a public interest litigation (PIL), seeking implementation of Dowry Restrained Act (DRA) 1960 in letter and spirit and also formulate rules for the purpose of DRA so that its proper enforcement could be done.
A direction was also made to the respondents to file objections within four weeks.In the petition, it was submitted that the petitioner was highly pained by the dowry deaths taking place throughout the state due to the non-fulfillment of dowry demands and submitted that the state was under an obligation to formulate rules for DRA implementation to punish the persons who were abetting or committing the offences under the said Act.
The non-implementation DRA and non-framing of rules amounted to the violation of legal statutory and fundamental rights of the girls and they were facing gender inequality because of this.
