UKF urges Guv for restoration of Raghunath Mandir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 3: United Kashmiriyat forum (UKF) has urged Governor N.N.Vohra for the restoration of historic Raghunath Mandir situated near Fateh Kadal in the heart of Srinagar city. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that an emergency meeting of executive members of United Kashmiriyat forum headed by its chairman Bharat Raina and other Kashmiri Pandit dignitaries was held at Sheri Kashmir Park Srinagar today wherein participants took serious note of deteriorating condition of the temples of the valley. They said that 532 temples were gutted during the last 20 years while adding that Idols worth hundreds of crores was looted. They maintained that most of these temples are historical and monumental like other shrines across Kashmir valley. The participants said that the sacred temple was one of the dream projects of Maharaja Ranbir Singh and its construction was started in the year 1857 and completed in the year 1876. They said that temple was looted and its building gutted during militancy. Police failed to nab the culprits while the beautiful monument has been turned into garbage dumping site like other Hindu shrines. United Kashmiriyat forum submitted a memorandum along with details and CD to Governor N.N. Vohra in the year 2008. A comprehensive project report along with drawing and estimate was made by united Kashmiriyat Forum and submitted to the government but no funds were made available for the project. Chief spokesman of the forum P.L. Chakoo requested Chief Minister to personally intervene in the matter. Others who spoke on the occasion included P.L Pandita, Sanjay Sahib, Anil Mattoo, Vijay Sharma and Ali Mohammad.
