JAMMU, Sept 3: The state is facing ironical situations with regard to functioning of the NC led coalition government these days. The contrasts are wide and visible when it comes to watching Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's activities and what government machinery is doing or faltering upon for want of his complete presence and attention in the matters of governance. While the entire administrative machinery and Assembly Secretariat is busy in updating itself for ensuing session on one hand and his Finance Minister is trying to douse employees anger over delay in release of arrears, Omar's priorities as always remain different- tweeting and only tweeting , that too to 'generate' some new controversies.
Two days back Omar Abdullah spent the entire day on tweeting over a host of issues that kept journalists and common people having fad for online political gossips busy .While Omar in capacity of Chief Minister of J&K succeeded in evoking sharp reactions that made news at the national level , back home it disappointed the subjects utterly who took it as their misfortune for their Chief Minister, instead of working on some people oriented issues spent whole day in tweeting and responding to queries of those who followed them. Dismayed and disgruntled, the people of J&K are now gradually reconciling to this fact that they have a government which runs without little or no involvement of the Chief Minister, not even on key matters of governance.
Omar is seldom seen neither expressing worry over increased bids of ceasefire violations from across the border nor concerned over loss of precious lives either of civilians or forces in the continuous encounters or other related incidents. All that he has been taking care lately with personal attention is on amnesty decision for stone pelters and withdrawal of cases against them. This may be well construed as a goodwill gesture of the Chief Minister for the sake of a bigger motive of ensuring peace in Kashmir Valley but that is not all he is expected to deliver as Chief Minister. The government employees have been clamoring and crying hoarse for over three months but he has not uttered a word, not even for the sake of public consumption. Faced with criticism from all quarters over government silence, his Finance Minister finally chipped in today and gave a fresh assurance to the agitating employees that government would revisit the possibility of release of 6th pay commission arrears.
The subjects of his state feel more disappointed and dismayed when they find stark contrasts while comparing the working style and hectic schedules of Chief Ministers across the country. To mention of Kerala CM who was in news only two days back , albeit for a positive and praiseworthy reason-he opened his 24x7 telecom grievance cell to get on to the locals and address their problems in right earnest. This he did probably around the time Omar would have been busy tweeting the other day.....!
