Teacher Day celebration to be telecast live | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 4 (KNS): State Government has decided to live telecast Teachers Day celebrations from SKICC on Monday. The Education department has approached Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar for live coverage of the event, sources told KNS. Education Minster Pirzada Mohammad Syed told KNS that the day would be celebrated like a festival. A grand function is being held at SKICC where meritorious students and dedicated teachers will be honored by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said some 10 thousand teachers are expected to attend the celebrations at SKICC while special functions will also be held at zonal and district headquarters. Terming the celebrations as an effort to induce confidence into teacher community, Pirzada said, “Attempts are being made to telecast the celebration live on Doordarshan.” Interestingly this will be the first time in the history of the state when Teachers Day celebrations will be telecast live on national hook up. Meanwhile, Education Department has made elaborate arrangements to hold the celebrations smoothly for which Traffic Police and other concerned departments have been asked to cooperate. Director School Education Shugufta Parveen told KNS that there will be one state award for best teacher in both male and female categories and the awardees will get Rs one lakh each. “Second best teacher awardees will be given Rs 75 thousand and the third will be given Rs 50 thousand prize.” Besides the state awards, there will be district awards in male and female categories. Shugufta said that two special prizes would be given to Owais Ahmad Dar of Boys Middle School Pulwama and Owais Ahmad of Government Higher Secondary School Kupwara. Both the students have achieved national level awards for their excellent performance in Inspire scheme.
