9/4/2011 9:06:49 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 4:Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) has expressed deep anguish and concern over the failure of Government to protect the Hindu shrines in Kashmir valley.
In a meeting of the manch held here today under the chairmanship of its state president Bushan Lal Bhat, the members deliberated upon the issue at length.
The members believe that under a sinister plan various agencies, land grabbers and encroachers are making the properties belonging to various Hindu shrines, and religious places its target.
Despite repeated requests and representations, Government in the state has not discharged its constitutional duty in protecting the religious places of the minority community in the valley from these anti-social elements.
This has led to lack of faith of the community in the system and Government.
The meeting deliberated upon the report of the Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch team, which recently visited the various shrines and religious places in the valley to have on the spot assessment of the situation. The encroachment of temple land at Hari Parbat and at other places was discussed in detail in the meeting. JKVM members expressed its concern and anger over the encroachment of land at Devi Angan and other temples surrounding Chakreshwar Hari Parbat Srinagar.
The detailed photography and videography of the area shows that land grabbers at various places have encroached upon land and the status quo of the hillock near Devi Angan has-been completely changed. Management and some activists approached the various agencies of the government and lodged FIR in the concerned police station but lack of interest did not yield result. Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch council also discussed the desecration and encroachment of the shiv temple on the other side of Hari Parbat.
Land of the Shiv Temple has been completely encroached upon, and only sanctum Santorum with shiv Lignum is present. Some Hindus have protected the sanctum sanctorum of the temple by covering it with sheets of tin.
A resolution passed in the meeting supported whole-heartedly Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, which is spearheading the movement for the passage of Kashmir Hindu shrines and temples bill in the J&K assembly and appealed to the Government to pass this bill in the coming session of the assembly without any delay.
