BHADERWAH, September 4: The three days long historic Mela Patt concluded here with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm.
Picturesque vale of Bhaderwah is famous for its melodious folk songs, folk dances, folk lore, festivals and Yatras, which are celebrated round the year. Among the most colorful festivals of Bhaderwah is Mela Patt, which is celebrated to commemorated the historical meeting between Mughal Emperor Akbar and Raja Nagpal of Bhaderwah during 16th century, at Delhi.
The festival devoted to Lord Vaskui Nag, the presiding deity of Bhaderwah , is celebrated on Nag Panchmi every year. Mela Patt was initiated by Raja Nagpal in 16th century as the ruler of Bhaderwah principality called Bhaderkashi then.
Since then this annual festival is organised after the conclusion of Kailash Yatra where people irrespective of cast ,color and creed participated with full fervor .This year the festival was marked by strict security arrangements made by the local administration to avoid any untoward incident.
SDM Bhaderwah Shyam Vinod Meena ,ASP Bhaderwah Roop Raj Bhagat ,SDPO Jameel Ahmed , Tehsildar Sudershan Kumar Salaria and SHO Surinder Rao was personally beefed the security around the venue .
According to Vasuki Puran , Raja Nagpal would not bow before any one except lord Vasuki Nag.
People from all walks of life clad in traditional dress converge at Khakhal Mohalla ,the site of festival and enjoy traditional Dhakku dance with traditional musical instruments .The royal robes that were presented by king Akbar to Raja Nagpal of Bhaderwah in his honour are also displayed during the three day long Mela Patt .
