PDP to fight for employment from upcoming power projects

KISHTWAR, Sep 4:Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to fight for share and employment from the 6 upcoming major hydro power projects to be constructed in Kishtwar district.
This was stated by PDP State Secretary and member Legislative Council Syed Asgar Ali during a meeting of party works at Dak Banglow Kishtwar ahead of party President Mehbooba Mufti’s visit to Kishtwar on 18th of this month.
While addressing the meeting Sayed Asgar Ali said that in the proposed visit of party chief Mehbooba Mufti visit to Kishtwar and Chatroo, the party would stressed on the need of renegotiating discriminatory water agreements. He said that agenda of the proposed meetings was to highlight problems of the people of this hilly region.
He said that coalition regime has failed to create job avenues for the unemployed youth of the State, he strongly demanded that local skilled and unskilled youth should be given top priority while making adjustment in the developmental projects especially the hydro-electric projects being executed in this belt.
Riaz Ahmed Zarger alleged discrimination on part of the than government at the time of execution of Dool-Hasti power project in which the benefits to the local area have been ignored at the time of signing of MOU for this project. He said that on one side the government is earning Corers of Rupees from these power projects, but on other side ignoring the benefits need to be given to the local people. “We are not against development, but we want proper share for development of local areas from all those power projects” Raiz Ahmed Zarger said. He said that due to construction of Dool-Hasti tunnel, the local water resources get dried up as a result of which the local population of Kishtwar suffers. “We must not repeat the same mistake as was done in past as far as comprehensive developmental and rehabilitation plan is concerned and need to be worked out” Zarger further added. He said that the government must take into consideration the aspiration of local populace at the time of execution of MOU for other power projects like 1200 MW Budsar, 450 MW Kathaie, 690 MW Kirru and 600 MW Kwath all to be constructed in joint venture between State Power Development Corporation and NHPC. Whereas contract for 690 MW Rattle power project have all ready been sanctioned in favour of GVK limited of PPP mode and the process for execution of 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power project has already been set in motion.
