Burglars steal silver chattar of goddess, damage lion's leg | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 04: Piercing the tight security bandobast, burglars Saturday night stole a silver parasol (chattar) of the goddess in a temple at Pranjal Sigdhi in Chatroo area of Kishtwar and also damaged a leg of the lion on which the deity was sitting. There was a strong resentment in the area over the incident and also over the police failure to protect religious places, according to official sources. Sources said unidentified burglars broke into the 18-bhuja temple at Pranjal Sigdhi late last night and decamped with the goddess's silver parasol weighing 2 to 2.5 kg. The idol and its lion also suffered minor damages in the incident, the sources added. SSP, Kishtwar, Bhim Sen Tuti, however, said the idol was intact and only the lion suffered minor damage. There was nothing communal into it and it seemed as if the damage was caused to the lion unintentionally, he added. The SSP said it was basically a burglary. In a reply to a query, he said the accused were yet to be apprehended but the investigation was on. |
