Amnesty for stone pelters only till Aug 28: CM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar Sept 5 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday said that stone pelters arrested after August 28 will not be covered under general amnesty scheme announced by him last month. Talking to reporters after attending Teachers Day function at SKICC here, Omar said, “The amnesty was only till that date (August 28, 2011) and anybody arrested afterwards in any stone pelting incident will not be covered under the scheme.” On August 28 ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr the chief minister had announced general amnesty to more than 5000 youths involved in 1200 cases of stone-pelting during last year’s summer unrest. Appealing the people to keep education and health out of conflict, Omar said, “By giving calls for lock outs they (separatists) directly hinder the traders to undertake their day to day business, undermined the education of students, compel transporters to remain idle, put commuters to lot of inconvenience and debar patients to receive treatment in hospital.” Without naming separatists, Omar said, “Some vested interests are exploiting youths to vitiate peaceful atmosphere in the Valley. They (separatists) want to ruin the career of students.” “What service they are serving to the people by this kind of attitude,” he asked. The Chief Minister underlined the importance of peace and normalcy for attaining economic and political goals. “Till Kashmir issue is solved, you can’t keep students without education. We have to educate our future generation,” he asserted.
