29 villages of Shangus protest against bad roads
‘Dwellers plant trees on roads as mark of protest’

Shangus, Sep 5: Complete shutdown was observed in Shangus and its 29 villages on the call given by co-ordination committee Shangus and people here on Monday protested against bad condition of roads in their areas and planted trees on the roads as a mark of protest.
Protesters also threat migration from their respective areas if the government didn’t responded their grievances
The protesters alleged that no efforts have been made by the R&B department to improve the condition of roads.
“We have written to the concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done,” said Gulam Rasool Wani, a resident.
“Few years ago government allotted a contract to Vatista Construction Company with an estimated cost of 22 crores rupees and according to rules they have complete the work only in 18 months but they failed twice and finally government canceled the tender.
After that Construction Company moved to court and brought a stay order from the court, resulting immense problems to the area, ” he said adding that due to bad conditions of road from Achabl to Chatabal near about 22 km’s there were about 10 deaths in last year.

“Our business, transporters, wards especially ladies and children are worst effected by the condition of the road” said Ab Jabar Sheikh, a resident
Protesters raised slogans against R&B Department, Avaista Construction Company and Omar Abdullah led Government.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Syed Kifayat Hussain Rizvi said,. “As the matter is sub-judice but now on humanitarian grounds we are going to write a letter to high court requesting them to decide the case immediately so that the residents can get rid from the problems faced by them due to bad condition of roads”
