Digvijay 'plays safe' on Guru issue vAlleges Sushma, Naidu has business links with Reddy bros’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 5: Amid the political controversy emerged in J&K on Afzal Guru issue , veteran Congress leader and AICC general Secretary Digvijay Singh tried to 'play safe' contending that it was Congress High command which is competent to comment on granting amnesty and also to take a stand if a resolution is passed in J&K Assembly. Known for harsh and hard hitting statements, Digvijay albeit burst a bobb shell on rival BJP alleging that senior leaders Sushma Swaraj and Venkaiya Naidu had 'business contacts and interests with Reddy bothers in Karnataka who were arrested by CBI today for their alleged involvement in illegal mining. "If any resolution with regard to seeking amnesty is brought in the J&K Assembly, the decision will be taken by party high command……. I am not competent to comment on this," Divijay Singh while speaking to media during his visit to the City of temples. However, we make it clear that we will not compromise with terrorism or terrorists, Singh said adding that Congress stand on terrorism is known and clear that there should be no compromise on fighting the menace but law should take its course while dealing with the perpetrators of this menace. Digvijay Singh who always makes headlines for making straight and hard hitting comments on political rivals came down heavily on the BJP leaders and accused them of having vested interests in the business of Mining barons in Bellary. He demanded a inquiry to expose what he said their business links and their high profile connections. "BJP talks of fighting corruption but its own senior leaders received monetary benefit from illegal licenses…………." He alleged adding "this should have been exposed much earlier to make known to all that they have doublespeak on the issue of corruption". Taking on further, he said this is the party which has dual role and has always misled common masses. He questioned as to BJP why its governments in Gujarat, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have failed to appoint Lok Ayukta so far if they were so keen on rooting out corruption menace. The Congress leader who has been vocal and bold in making accusations against RSS targetted the organisation to the core alleging it is the virtual face of anti corruption agitations led by Anna Hazare recently in the country. "Sangh has been doing so as it wants to divert the attention of the people over role of its activists in the terrorist activities in different parts of the county. ………."they rake up such issues only to protect their own skin as many of their activists have been exposed for involved in the terror attacks in the country" Digvijay Singh said adding that be it Baba Ram Dev or hunger strike launched by Anna Hazare, it was RSS motivated and its role in the backsatge. However he was all praise for Anna saying as an individual he is a nice human being but the team around him does not have good credentials. Singh also accused Kejriwal of not only flouting service rules but also being involved in politics and collecting huge amount of money for his NGO. Defending Congress on the issue of corruption, he said Congress the record of fighting menace of corruption in the country and for the purpose it brought that Right to Information Act (RTI) and Lok Pal bill . He said that more teeth have been provided to the agencies fighting against the menace. Singh had arrived here on his personal visit but soon after he attended his personal commitment at Janipur the state congress leaders owing allegiance to Prof Saif Ud Din Soz camp flocked the gardens of state guest house and interacted with him. Some handful of youth congress volunteers, packed in private jeeps, also descended on the scene to shout slogans in support of senior Congress leader. None of the state congress ministers or any other local leader who is a known loyalist of Ghulam Nabi Azad was seen in the close proximity of Digvijay Singh. After meeting state congress leaders including MLC'S Amrit Malhotra, Ravinder Sharma, Yash Paul Khajuria and others Digvijay Singh briefly interacted with media persons. |
