| Protests in Rajouri over graveyard land dispute | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI: Members of a particular community today staged a sit-in at Dhangri on the Poonch road here after they were stopped by some people from burying the body of a girl in the village graveyard.
Tension erupted when people belonging to a particular community went to the graveyard at Dhangri in the morning to bury the body of a girl. As soon as they began to dig the grave, some members of the minority community reached the spot and objected to their act, saying the piece of land where the grave was being dug belonged to them .
On their objection, the members of the majority community staged a dhrana on the main Poonch road at Dhangri and protested against the alleged encroachment of the graveyard land. To sort out the matter, police and revenue officials reached the spot along with the land record.After measuring the land in the village, the revenue officials concluded at about 5 pm that the land in dispute was actually part of the graveyard owned by auqaf trust. Following these findings, the minority community members left the spot, while the protesters lifted their dharna. They too left for homes after burying the girl's body.The protest passed off peacefully. |
