| Kashmir solution on anvil ?Omar's dream | | | Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah,has emerged as a soothsayer telling people that solution to the political issues of Jammu and Kashmir was on the anvil.He has dropped a broad hint about the impending settlement of the Kashmir issue like seers and saints for whom Kashmir has been a special abode.Neither he has dilated on the nature of the solution to the political issues of the state nor has he explained the main contours of the likely solution to the Kashmir issue.If what Omar predicts comes true it would be a miracle of the century because the Kashmir issue,rather the dispute,being ticklish has defied a settlement or resolution for the last over six decades.How Omar has become convinced that the settlement of the Kashmir issue was round he corner ?It is as mysterious as the Chief Minister has become during the last three years.Why mysterious ?It is so because the way he has been seen rubbing shoulders with the nationalist forces today and on the other day supporting some of the demands of the Kashmiri separatists.
Omar's prediction may not be palatable for many because no major development,political or otherwise,has taken place which may be a pointer to the possible settlement of the political issue of Jammu and Kashmir.Yes,the stalled Indo-Pak talks have been resumed.Whether the talks were held between the two foreign ministers or between the two Home Ministers,or between the two foreign secretaries or between the two home secretaries the process of dialogue is yet to remove various bottlenecks and resolve various irritants that have bedevilled the relations between the two neighbouring countries.Not only this.Even after the 2008 Mumbai mayhem,for which Pakistan and its agencies received worldwide condemnation,Islamabad,its Army and the IS I have not abandoned their plan of aiding and abetting proxy war in India especially in its northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.The two-year long India's demand seeking Pakistan to prevent its soil from being used for exporting terror to India has not been fully conceded by Islamabad.
Infiltration of militants from across the LOC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir continues.The etablishment in Islamabad continues to provide diplomatic,moral and material support to miltants operating in Jammu and Kashmir.In the wake of these developments one feels intrigued over Omar's claim of solution to the political issue of Jammu and Kashmir being on the anvil.While saying so Omar Abdullah has suggested to political leaders having different shades of political ideology and opinion to join hands and contribute to this pursuit positively and sincerely.Those who are sceptic about Omar's assertions believe that the Chief Minister either wants to gain time by keeping his political opponents guessing so that the state did not witness any fresh wave of civilian strife or he has in his mind the restoration of greater autonomy which he sees as the possible solution to the political issue of Jammu and Kashmir.Possibly Omar has in his mind that the state may get back autonomy after the centre accepted the recommendations to this effect being made by the three interlocuters.Much water has flowed down the Jehlum, Chenab and the Indus rivers and greater autonomy may not promote peace but result in regional conflict and passions
