Need for building consnsus on self-rule formula

Jammu, Dec 4
A day after his arrival from United States PDP Patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed on Monday called on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and briefed him about his month long visit to United states .
During their meeting Sayeed briefed the Prime Minister about interactions he had with the US think tank and Kashmiri groups on the issue of resolving Kashmir issue on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly meeting.Sayeed was visiting United states as head of the non-official Indian delegation.
According to official press release issued by the PDP, Sayeed informed the Prime Minister that during his interactions with these groups he stressed the need of building consensus on the PDPs formula of Self-rule as most viable solution of this problem.
It may be mentioned that before going to United States Sayeed along with his daughter and PDP President MehboobMufti had addressed series of meetings in the state in support of their self-rule slogan.
Participating in the discussion ‘Kashmir the day ahead’ jointly organised by centre for strategic and International studies and a Washington based institute Sayeed presented a comprehensive document on the ways and means of resolving the Kashmir problem amicably to the satisfaction of all the concerned parties.
In his meeting with Dr Singh today Sayeed told the Prime Minister that Indo-Pak peace process catalysed by the various confidence building measures has build a conducive atmosphere for initiating practical measures for the lasting solution of the Kashmir problem.
He said it is now a well accepted fact that peace process in the sub continent is irreversible. It may move in ‘fits and starts’ but the direction is clear now.
Sayeed said that the prevailing supportive environment in the subcontinent is offering a window of opportunity for the peaceful and permanent settlement of the Kashmir problem.
He urged both India and Pakistan to take advantage of the peaceful situation to realize the much cherished dream of peace and prosperity for the region.
