| DGP assailed for remaining mum on Sarfu issue | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 6 : Director general of police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda has been assailed by the people of Khour, Akhnoor, for remaining mum on the issue of Sarfu's death who was alleged to have died under mysterious circumstances in the JIC lockup last month.
Sarfu, an alleged trans-border smuggler, had died in the JIC lockup under mysterious circumstances. While the police claim was that he had hanged himself to death, family members and their relatives alleged that he had been tortured to death by police.
The family had demanded the intervention of DGP Khoda for justice. As there has been no comment on the issue by him, the family and relatives, all of whom hail from Khour, have criticized him strongly.
They said as the state police chief, it was obligatory on the part of Khoda to give protection to the lives of people. Even if police treated Sarfu as a criminal, they had no right to allegedly torture him to death, they said. |
