'Sycophancy was at its peak in Apex Committee meeting' | Resolution full of praises, suggestions sponsored by govt....? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 6 : Apex committee meeting held two days back created more confusion among the Kashmiri Pandit community on key issues than solving or steeling them in the perspective exiled community would have desired. As always , members in this high level body set up by the government stood divided and disunited, though none of them actually mustered courage to oppose what could be clearly seen as 'government sponsored' suggestions and so called resolution endorsing the steps taken by the NC led coalition government. Sources said as soon as the members of the Committee, around 45 in number and other administrative authorities besides ministers assembled for the meeting, one of the seniormost leader of the KP community got up , sought eveybody's attention towards what he described as something very important that he wanted to take up before the real agenda of the meeting. He read out a wriiten document loaded with appreciation of the government for its efforts vis-a-vis KPs , expressed gratitude to the government besides lauding the role of the Relief Organisation in settling day to day issues of the community. This was the so called resolution which he sought to be put on record as having passed with endorsement of all other members. However that was not true, sources said adding that in fact barring few, the members had no idea about the resolution nor was it discussed or mentioned with any of them. "It all looked stage managed ........when he completed the written praises showered on government in presence of the two ministers , two other veteran and senior members of the community seconded it formally only to be followed by loud clapping of some more members of the group who were probably aware and already taken into confidence , soucres said. The move was followed by warm felicitaion ceremony for the ministers, by presenting a shawl etc by the two leaders who appeared to be in fore front of pushing 'resolution' business as the prime agenda . In other words, sycophancy indulged in by few leaders was at its peak in the meeting in so far as the government and its measures are concerned. Sources say , government agents as some organisations of the KPs portray for few members, appeared true in the meeting held on Friday last . Some members, sources said were summoned by the government a day earlier and a proper meeting was held with them in which it was sought that things like resolution and some suggestions which came foth during the day as the meeting progressed, be presented in such a manner that government gets full marks for whatever it is doing . These members happily obliged the government quarters and infact did more than what government would have wanted. This attitude and the gestures left other members wondering, if not surprised. However no one stood up to say there was nothing state government had done out of the way as whatever small steps it is taking have been envisaged by Centre under its packages and in fact government sometime back has been pulled up for not expediting the things in this direction. As if this was not enough, few more members, in order to steer clear of any controversy or simply to escape any crictical comments, came out with individual statements and even some organised separate presss conferences to express their 'actual' stand on return policy while Apex committee meeting, of which they were a part endorsed something else. |
