| Awareness campaign on “Parthenium Management” | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri under the aegis of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu and on the directions of Director Extension Education, Dr. K.S. Risam organised awareness Campaigns on Parthenium Management. The Campaigns were conducted at Govt. High School, Choudhary Nar and Govt. Higher Secondary School of Dhangri on 5th and 6th September, 2011, respectively. More than 200 (two hundred) students and farmers actively participated in the Campaigns. The programme started with formal introduction about the Campaign on Parthenium Management by Dr. S. B. Singh, Programme Coordinator of KVK, Rajouri. Dr. A.P. Singh, SMS, Agronomy delivered lecture on cultural and chemical management of Parthenium. Dr. Singh emphasized on timely uprooting of Parthenium weed before initiation of flowering. The farmers were informed that this obnoxious weed is causing health and environmental hazards to the mankind and animals. Moreover, the indigenous flora of the Rajouri region is also depleting at alarming pace. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, SMS, Agricultural Extension advised the farmers to take proper precautionary measures while uprooting and spraying the herbicides on Parthenium weed. The students were motivated to combat this challenge with charity zeal and adopt community approach to get-rid-of this menace. The other scientific and non-scientific staff of KVK, Rajouri also rendered their services for the smooth conduct of the said Campaign.
