People protest against attack on sarpanch; block highway at Thandi Khui | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 07: Hundreds of people this morning gathered on the national highway at Thandi Khui, about 26 km from here, near Vijaypur in Samba, and blocked it to vehicular traffic in protest against the Tuesday night’s attack on a sarpanch and his son. They protested against the rising acts of goondagardi in the area, demanding stern action against criminals and other anti-social elements. Sukhjinder Singh Bhola, sarpanch of Dhamore, Jakh, near Vijaypur and his son were last night attacked with swords and other sharp-edged weapons by four persons in a lane at Jogpur near Thandi Khui. While Bhola had sustained deep stab injuries on the head and other body parts, his son had fled the spot and survived with minor injuries. Acting swiftly, police raided several Vijaypur areas and arrested all the four accused late last night. They were identified as Kartar Chand, Bodh Raj, Vikram and Rohit. A case under sections 307 and 34 of RPC and 4/25 of arms act was registered against them at Vijaypur police station. In protest against the incident, Jogpur residents and supporters of the sarpanch blocked the national highway to vehicular traffic at about 11 am. The people, however, dispersed peacefully after police told them that all the accused had been arrested and put behind the bars. The demonstration continued for about 20 minutes. The sarpanch was undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital and there was improvement in his condition, police said.
