PK rejects recommendations of Govt. on Pandits return | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 7: Panun Kashmir (PK) has rejected the recent recommendation discussed between the Apex committee and government for return of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits back to valley. Addressing a press conference, PK president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said that the recent announcements made by the Minister for revenue reportedly on the basis of the proposed recommendations of the government sponsored Apex Committee regarding the return issue of the Pandit community is mere a eyewash. “The so-called recommendations have no takers even in the so-called Apex committee whose members have categorically denied having given any such recommendations by them in the meeting”, Chrungoo said. PK has said that it is surprising as to how the government has decided to mislead the public opinion on this issue in the name of the decisions of the committee. “Resettlement of the community in Kashmir is a political issue for which the establishment of a separate Homeland in the valley is the only viable and plausible solution”, Chrungoo said. He said that this core political issue of the community cannot be linked with the day to day livelihood issues which, in any case, the government is duty bound to take care of. The press conference was addressed by Shri Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, Shri Virender Raina, National Spokesperson-PK and Smt. Moheni Raina, Chairperson, Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DOPK). Speaking on the occasion, national spokesperson of PK, Virender Raina said, “Our geo-political aspirations cannot be bartered away in consequences of what the government is bound to do for its citizens. PK represents the political conscience of the Pandits and any resettlement formula in Kashmir without taking into account the geo-political aspirations of the community is bound to fail”, he said. Meanwhile Moheni Raina, Chairperson, DOPK said that the Daughters of Panun Kashmir, as per tradition will be organising a community programme on the eve of Vitasta Divas on September 9 at Rajinder Park , Jammu . “This year there will be a two-day celebration on this occasion. There is need to protect and promote the socio-cultural heritage of the Pandits”, he said.
