Life returns to normal in Kashmir after 2-day general strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sep 8 : Life returned to normal in the Kashmir valley, where two-day general strike was observed on a bandh call given by the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC), demanding release of detenues arrested during past two years.
Shops and business establishments reopened in the summer capital, Srinagar and other major towns and tehsil headquarters this morning.
Traffic on all routes was plying, resulting in frequent traffic jams on most busy roads in the civil lines and uptown.
The educational institutions also reopned this morning.
However, work in government offices remained affected due to "Kaam chod Hartal" called by Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC). The EJCC had called for three-day hartal from September 6, demanding payment of arrears of 6th pay commission, increase in the retirement age from present 58 years to 60 years and regularisation of daily wagers and contractuals.
Banks and other financial institutions were also working normally.
Reports of normalcy were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley.
