| Elect Committee discusses recognition of ‘Shina’ language | | | Jammu, Dec 4 A meeting of the Select Committee held here today with Minister of State for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz in chair to discuss the issues relating to the amendment of Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir to grant recognition to ‘Shina’ language spoken in Gurez and adjacent areas The Committee held threadbare discussion on the subject and observed that there are certain norms for inclusion of any language in the schedule. It was decided that before proceeding further, Law Department would seek more details on the subject and enlighten the Committee accordingly. The amendment in the form of Private Member’s Bill No. 6 of 2004 regarding the inclusion of ‘Shina’ language in the sixth schedule of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir has been sought by MLA Mr. Nazir Ahmed Gurezi. The Member has pleaded that a large chunk of people in Gurez area speak ‘Shina’ language and for the development of the people of this hilly area, the language should be officially recognized. Among others the meeting was attended by MLAs, Mrs Kanta Andotra, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Secretary Legislative Assembly Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Ganai and officers of Laws Department. |
