Employees protest at Paragwal as the strike enters third day

Akhnoor/aragwal, Sept 8: Like the other parts of the State, employees from different departments staged protest demonstration in Paragwal area of Akhnoor tehsil in support of their demands as the strike observed by Jammu and Kashmir government employees entered the third day today. They were demanding payment of arrears on account of implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission, increase in retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, regularization of adhoc, contractual employees.
The three-day strike call was given by the Joint Consultative Committee of employee associations after their two rounds of talks with the government failed to break the deadlock.
Employees of various educational institutes and other departments staged demonstrations in Paragwal area in support of their demands. Raising slogans against the government, the employees out rightly rejected the roadmap announced by the Government for the payment of the arrears and stressed for the joint strategy and collective struggle for getting employees pending demands redressed. They said that Government was playing with the sentiments of the employees and has only adopted the delaying tactics and termed the announcement of roadmap for employees' arrears mere eyewash.
Addressing on the gathering, Vinay Sharma, provincial secretary of Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum flayed the attitude of government for neglecting the genuine demands of the employees. He demanded that arrears should be paid in two installments. He also condemned the government for detaining the employees leaders including Abdul Qayoom Wani and Ganesh Khajuria in Srinagar near the Civil Secretariat.
JKTF district spokesperson Rajinder Singh raised the long pending demands like inclusion of five years of ReT teachers for promotional benefits, regularization of Education Volunteers after seven years and a transparent transfer policy.
He pointed out that due to price hike and denial of 6th Pay Commission arrears, the employees are dejected and frustrated.
The protestors said the struggle would continue in support of long pending demands.
They flayed the government for adopting delaying tactics in mitigating the genuine demands of the employees which has forced them to adopt the agitational path.
