SKUAST-J flags off farmers’ exposure visit to Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sep 8: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch has organized a five days farmers’ exposure visit to Kashmir to enable farmers to get hands on experience and learn about new technologies in agriculture, especially improved horticultural methods adopted by the farmers of Kashmir. . Sanjay Khar programme co-ordinator, KVK, Poonch flagged off the exposure visit of seven farmers of ‘Farmers club’ constituted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch. During the tour, farmers will visit Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & technology of Kashmir where in 1st J&K Agricultural Science Congress is scheduled to be held from 8-10 September 2011. Flagging off the farmers’ tour Sanjay Khar offered his good wishes and blessings to the farmers and said that the exposure visit would enrich the minds of farmers and facilitate the process of adoption of new technologies and attitudinal change for betterment of agriculture in Poonch. Main objective of the programme was to assist farmers to learn more about latest technologies, innovative methods adopted by other farmers, post harvest management and marketing system, he added. Appending to the importance of exposure visit of Poonch farmers’ to Kashmir, he said that such visit will boost production and productivity of horticulture crops in the district as Kashmir is pioneer in temperate fruits production in India and Poonch with similar climate has a lot of potential for cultivating the temperate fruits. The farmers will be able to see and learn by themselves about the trends and techniques for scientific cultivation of such fruits from interactions with their fellow Kashmir farmers and scientists of SKUAST-K.
