| Why do our politicians always LEAK? | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 8: The Wiki Leaks expose on The State must embarrass every politician in Jammu and Kashmir to say the least. Politics in Kashmir is as dirty as the Dal Lake, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq opposed Syed Ali Shah Geelani's passport, and Omar Abdullah said India was not serious in solving the problem as cultural exchanges with Pakistan would achieve nothing.
What surprises one the most is the fact that highly tightlipped and shrewd politicians start singing like parrots when it comes to the Americans? The country has been liberated from the yoke of slavery, but all of us, or at least the Indian politicians, continue to be slaves of the white skinned foreigners.
It is very disturbing to note that the same politicians who hold a stiff upper lip while talking to local media persons start volunteering information when they come into contact with the foreigners. Isn't it a matter of shame that a senior politician or a diplomat should be talking loose when offered a few pegs of the black label scotch whiskey? Being invited to speak to the US diplomats and politicians appears like being applauded at the White House for our politicians who are rarely available for a comment to the local media persons.
Why should a responsible person like Omar Abdullah tell the Americans that India is not serious in resolving the Kashmir dispute? Does he believe it is always and only the US pressure that gets World disputes resolved?
It is a pity to blame Julian Assange, the editor of the Wiki leaks diplomatic cables for spilling the beans. Although there is no official confirmation by the White House or the US foreign office about the genuineness of the Wiki Leaks disclosures, the fact that they have not be denied officially by the US leaves no doubt about their authenticity.
From bedroom gossips to horse trading and even slipper fixations, the Wiki Leaks have everything on record.
Is today's India a country that lives in tremendous appreciation and fear of the US and their capacity to guide the course of human history? At least, all our politicians, diplomats and civil servants do. It is not otherwise possible that a separatist leader like Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, a mainstream politician like Omar Abdullah, a strong and iron-fisted lady like Mayawati would chirp like singing birds before the agents and officials of the US foreign office.
The Wiki Leaks cables have a clear and vivid message for all Indian politicians. It is no use criticizing somebody because we chose to wash our dirty linen in their presence. It is high time we gathered some national pride and self-respect to put our act together. The disclosures have proved that our politicians are both shameless and without any self-respect. The average Indian alone can make them answerable for their loud mouth and lack of self-respect by showing them the door. The sooner politicians who cannot control themselves in the presence of the White skinned Sahibs and Memsahibs are told that the days of the Raj are over, the better for the polity of this country where a bottle of water still costs more than a bottle of milk and where farmers continue to commit suicide while politicians and business magnates gift beach crafts and designer watches to their wives as birthday gifts. |
