KISHTWAR, Sept 8: In a major turn of events, Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested five persons in connection with terror mail' sent to various media houses in New Delhi claiming responsibility for Delhi High Court blast.
The powerful blast which took place in Delhi High Court left 12 persons dead and 84 injured. National Investigating Agency (NIA) provided vital clues to Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), following which five persons including two college students were picked up for questioning from Kishtwar district of Jammu region.
Sources said that on getting an alert notice from NIA, Kishtwar police swung into action and raided 'Global Cyber Cafe' located in the ever busy Malik Market of Shaheedi road in Kishtwar. They picked up owner of Global Cyber Café Khawaja Mahmood Aziz, his brother Khawaja Khalid Aziz, Imran Hussain Sheikh (20) Son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, resident of Upper Malipath Kishtwar student of B.A Part 3 and Ashaq Hussain Son Ghulam Hussain Resident of Khandkot Doda, at present Hamdanabad Kishtwar (Marwah colony) student of B.A Part 1 for questioning.
Sources said that different police teams are questioning all the five people detained so far. They added that the owner and other four persons detained are being quizzed about the identity of the person who had sent the first terror e-mail claiming the blast had been executed by Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HuJI), a terror group.
Police sources affirmed that questioning of the four persons has helped in getting vital clues about physical appearance of the person who sent the email at around 1 PM Wednesday. The questioning, according to police has revealed that a youngster could have sent the mail as Afzal Guru's case is an emotive issue in the region. However, Police sources also said that no proper record has been maintained by Cyber Café owner despite being asked for the same repeatedly.
They said that cafe is located at a place where there is heavy rush of college students since Kishtwar Degree College, Boys Higher Secondary School, Girls Higher Secondary School and many other private schools, beside coaching institutes are functioning in and around the said cyber cafe. First e-mail was sent from the id [email protected] and claimed that the blast was carried out in retaliation to the death sentence awarded to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Reports further said that team of NIA has already left for Kishtwar to probe the possible link of email sent from the Global internet cafe sealed by the police this afternoon. Sources said that of the six cabins, suspects used cabin 3 of Cyber Café for sending the email. It needs to be stated here that owner of the Cyber Café is engineer by profession, his brother Khalid Aziz is trained in mobile repairing, beside one of their brother is a doctor and another one is agriculture graduate.
DIG Doda-Kishtwar and Ramban range Manish Kishore Sinha is also camping in Kishtwar since midnight after the involvement of Kishtwar based cyber café surfaced and is supervising the whole investigation. Even as the investigators are still looking for clues in the Delhi High Court blast case, another e-mail claiming that Wednesday's terror strike was carried out by the Indian Mujahideen has surfaced.
E-mail has been reportedly sent by an Indian Mujahideen operative even as five people, including four in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar and one in Uttar Pradesh, have been detained. Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs U.K. Bansal said that anti-terror squads of neighbouring states are also helping in the investigations. Bansal said that forensic experts have been called in from other states and are helping the NIA.
He said that the e-mail sent reportedly by the Indian Mujahideen cannot be ignored and the investigators will probe it. Meanwhile, fifth person, who has been detained in Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, has been identified as Shahzad and police officials say that he resembles one of the sketches released by Delhi Police on Wednesday.
Police are verifying his identity through his relatives and village Sarpanch. Shahzad works in a factory in Pune. It is worthwhile to mention here that origin of blasts that rocked Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow on November 23, 2007 was also traced to Kishtwar. Police later found out that the blasts had been done at the behest of HUJI Supreme Commander Bashir Ahmed Mir alias Sabha Son of Habib Mir of Mir Mohallah Kuchhal Chatroo in District Kishtwar. Mir was killed in an encounter with security force in Kuchhal area during intervening night of 23/24 January 2008.
Operating under code-name Hijazi, Pakistan-trained Mir had, according to investigation reports, ordered string of strikes across north and south-east India in the year 2007 including the court complex bombings in Uttar Pradesh.
