Civilian high altitude trek on Siachin glacier

UDHAMPUR, September 7: A twenty five member civilian High Altitude trek on Siachen Glacier was flagged off from Leh, by Lt Gen Ravi Dastane, VSM GOC Fire and Fury Corps on September 7.
The next bound for the tracking team is Army Base camp at the Siachen Glacier where final stage of acclimatization and specialized training for the participants will be carried out till September 17.
The team will commence trekking to Kumar post which is located in the central Glacier covering a distance of 60 kms. The trek will reach Kumar post located at an altitude of 15180 feet, on 20 September before returning back to the Base Camp.
The expedition team has its members drawn from all walks of life and includes five ladies. The team members are from MEA, DRDO, cadets of Rashtriya Military College and Military Schools, Media and Indian Mountaineering Federation, under Major Manish Rawat, the team leader.
This trek is an annual feature and is meant to promote adventure tourism among civilian youth of the country on world’s highest battle filed.
