Trikuta College, GCW Parade retain badminton titles

JAMMU, Sept 09: Trikuta Degree College and Government College for Women (GCW), Parade retained the men’s and women’s badminton titles respectively in the annual inter-college competitions, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus, here today.
In men’s final, Trikuta College outplayed GGM Science College in one of the best contest of the tournament making it 3-2.
It was not an easy win for Trikuta College even after taking a 2-0 lead winning both the singles through star performers Vasu and Shiv Manhas. Losing the doubles and then reverse singles amidst charged atmosphere of the Gymnasium Hall, Trikuta College found themselves leveled at 2-2.
However, the better side had to win and it was Trikuta Degree College, who clinched the deciding doubles game and the match also.
The Detailed Results: Singles: Vasu bt Maninder 2-0 (21-18, 21-16); Shiv Manhas bt Raghav 2-1 (17-21, 21-16, 21-10). Doubles: Vasu and Naresh lost to Mahinder and Aman 3-1 (21-15, 20-22, 20-22). Reverse singles: Naresh lost to Aman 2-0 (13-21, 14-21). Reverse doubles: Shiv and Satyajeet bt Raghav and Inderpartap 2-0 (21-17, 21-13).

Meanwhile, the women title was also retained by GCW Parade after they registered an easy win over Government Degree College Udhampur 2-0. Playing with two national players, Akanksha Raina and Prabhjyot, Parade College was confident enough to win the title for second consecutive time.
The Detailed Results: Akanksha Raina bt Shriya Sabsal 2-0 (21-07, 21-05; Prabhjyot Kour bt Shriya Sabsal 2-0 (21-04, 21-02).
In the finals, Dean Education, JU, Prof Lokesh Verma was chief guest, who interacted with the finalist teams and wished them success. He was accompanied by Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau. Among others present were Assistant Director, Dr Sonam Angchok Romesh Sharma, Ramesh Magotra, Dr Rajinder Lal, Mrs Braj Jamwal, PD Singh, Jai Bharat and Raj Kumar as also Sudesh Kumar, Dr Vinod Bakshi and Suman Lata Sharma (all Physical Directors)
The finals were officiated by NIS qualified coaches, Vikram Jamwal and Ravish Vaid of Department of Youth Services and Sports in support with senior students of the Department of Physical Education under the supervision of Romesh Magotra.
