Court awards 3 yrs RI to Class IV | PHE employee in corruption case | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 10: Special judge anti-corruption, Jammu, Pawan Dev Kotwal today awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to class IV PHE ground water division employee in a corruption case. A fine of Rs 3 lakh was also imposed on him under prevention of corruption Act. Ashok Kumar Sharma, store khalassi in PHE ground water division, Jammu, was found in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5,31,905. According to the prosecution case, on the basis of a complaint, state vigilance organisation (SVO) had conducted a secret enquiry against accused Ashok and allegedly found that te accused by corrupt and illegal means had constructed a palatial house at Shanti Vihar, Patta Paloura. He was also found in possession of others items and bank accounts disproportionate to his known sources of income. He also possessed one bus and a scooter.SVO had then registered a case against him and started investigation. After completion of investigation, the challan was presented in the court of special judge anti-corruption, Jammu. After hearing counsels of both sides, the judge awarded him three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3 lakh. The court also clarified that in case of default of payment of fine, he would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for one year and 8 months. The court said that the fine on realization be deposited in the government treasury. The accused, who was present in the court was taken into custody and sent to the district jail, Jammu.
