For "cheating" SBI, Mir brothers sent on 2 days CBI remand | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 10: B L Bhat, presiding officer of CBI special court, today granted two days CBI remand of Mohammad Iqbal Mir and his brother Pervaz Ahmed Mir for their alleged involvement in cheating SBI of Rs 2 cr. It was alleged that Mir brothers along with Major Singh and Thoru Ram with a common objective to cheat the Kaluchak branch of State Bank of India had taken a loan of Rs 2 cr on false documents. A K Gupta, credit manager, SBI zonal office, Jammu, and N K Gupta, chief manager, SBI, zonal office, Jammu, were also found to have misused their official position as public servants and accepted false documents submitted by the partners of M/s Mir Associates as genuine and recommended for the sanction of loan of Rs 2 cr (cash-credit working capital of Rs 1.5 cr and bank guarantee of Rs 50 lakh). These facts constituted offences under 120-B read with sections 420, 468 and 471 of RPC and 5(2) read with section 5(1) (d) of J&K PC Act. The loan facilities were used by the partners of M/s Mir Associates on their own comforts and no repayment was made to the bank as a result of which the loan turned NPA.
