Khoda flags off First Kashmir Marathon | 4000 athletes participated | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 10 Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda flagged off First Kashmir Marathon “Run for Fun” here this morning. The Run was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme in which more than 4000 athletes, besides a large number of police personnel including senior officers of the organization participated. The flag off ceremony for different categories of the Run started at 5 a.m. in which athletes from different districts of the valley came to participate in the Marathon. A huge gathering witnessed the Marathon along its route from Police Golf Course to Ganderbal via Habbak crossing. On the conclusion of Run, the winners of all the categories were awarded with cash prizes and the participants with certificates. Addressing on the occasion, the Director General of Police thanked the participants for their participation in the event and said that the interest of the people has encouraged police organization to conduct such events. He said the department has organized various sports events during the summer season in the valley under its Civic Action Programme and the people particularly the youth have shown much interest of their participation in these events. He said organizing such sports events aiming to channelize the energy of the youth towards right direction and hone their talent. The organization would continue made its efforts to inspire the youth of the state towards sports by organizing such events in future, DGP maintained. Lauding the role of Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajendra Kumar and his team of officers for organizing the event in a befitting manner, the DGP said the officers put great efforts and ensured large participation of athletes from all shades of life including the students of various educational institutions of the valley. He said that due to the support and cooperation of Sports Council and Department of Youth Services and Sports, the event was concluded successfully. He also appreciated the arrangements made by the Traffic Police on the routes of the Marathon. Khoda distributed Cash prizes among the winners which include Tanveer Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed, Adil Yaqoob and Ifrah as first position winners in 42 kms Marathon, 21.5 kms half Marathon, 12 kms (boys) and 12 kms (girls) category. Similarly Gulzar Ahmed, Umar Nabi, Saqib Bhat and Mazia were given cash prizes for second position in these categories. The other winners are Mohammad Younis, Feroz Ahmed, Asif Gulzar and Insha Rashid, who were declared third position winners and awarded cash prizes. Among others the function and the Marathon was attended by Additional Directors General of Police, Ram Lubhaya and D.R.Doley, Inspectors General of Police, S.M.Sahai, Dr. B.Srinivas, H.K.Lohia and Mr. Rouf-ul-Hassan, Deputy Inspectors General of Police Mr. K.L Bhagat and Mr. N.D Wani, Secretary Sports Council, Kiran Watal, Director Youth Services and Sports, Jai Paul Singh, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Nelofar Jan, Superintendents of Police, Mr. Rafiq-ul-Hassan, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, Abdul Gaffar Malik and Maqsood-ul-Zaman, all Commandants of Kashmir based Armed and IRP Battalions and other senior police officers.
