| Sheikh Abdullah was a secular visionary: Governor | | | JAMMU, DEC 4 Describing Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah as the tallest Kashmiri leaders who kept the flame of secularism alive during the horrendous partition days, Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today paid glowing tributes to him on his birth anniversary, saying that he was a charismatic leader who left an indelible mark on the socio-political history of Jammu and Kashmir. In a message, the Governor said that Sheikh Abdullah was the architect of modern Kashmir, who worked relentlessly for strengthening the social fabric of our multilingual and multicultural State. ‘He commanded respect of the entire Nation for being a true secular and nationlist leader who was a source of inspiration to the rest of the country at the time of the Partition’, he added. The Governor referred to the revolutionary steps taken by the legendary leader in steering the people out of poverty and backwardness towards political and social emancipation and economic resurgence. ‘The Land Reforms brought by Sheikh Sahib was a pioneering and landmark step towards making the tillers masters of their destiny’, he observed. |
