| Nurture young buds to bloom in character, academics-Azad to teachers | | |  Srinagar, Dec 4 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has called upon teaching community to strive for making schools as model institutions for grooming young buds into responsible persons able to face all challenges with courage and caliber. He said strenuous efforts are required to achieve the goal of cent percent literacy in the state for ensuring universalization of education a pre-requisite for all round development of the state. Addressing Best Teacher Awards-2006 in vesture ceremony and felicitation of outstanding children at SKICC here today, Mr. Azad said “we are living in 21st centuary and competition for new generation is not limited to state or national levels but it is a global phenomenon. Teaching community should redouble efforts to train students so that they are able to compete at the all levels”. He asked teachers not to remain satisfied with the fact that pass percentage at metric level has gone up from 33% to 45% but work to achieve pass percentage of 100% in all Government schools. Chief Minister said that education means all round development of a child and teachers have an important role to play in this direction and added that need of hour is not only to make students degree holders but good human beings and responsible citizens. Mr. Azad maintained that teachers play an important role in the life of a child and contribute in making his life enormously rich in every sphere. He asked the teaching community to train the children at a young age and inculcate in them etiquettes, good character and virtues of being a responsible citizens. He said a teacher at the same time is a guide, guardian and a friend of a student and his personality has a profound impact on children. Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed also spoke on the occasion and said that despite turmoil teachers worked a lot to keep the educational system on rails. He said the uncertainty over the last more than a decade had affected educational system but it goes to the credit of teaching community that they kept system going on. He said that ample talent is available in the state and need is to harness it properly. “Teachers and administration have to work in a coordinated manner to achieve 100 percent literacy”, he said and added that government is alive to the problems of the teaching community and endeavors to remove these is under active consideration. Minister of State for Education S. Manjit Singh presented the vote of thanks and dwelt in detail the achievements registered in the field of education in the state. Director School Education, Kashmir Mr. Mohammad Rafi presented the welcome address. Chairman J&K Teachers Forum Mr. Abdul Qayoom Wani assured that the teaching community will contribute to improve work culture and weed out corruption. He also projected some of the demands, which include enhancement of emoluments of Rehbar-I-Taleem, leave encashment and regularization of migrants substitutes. The Chief Minister presented the Best Teacher Awards (state category) to Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Shah, Mrs. Tahira Bano and Mr. Dorjey Namgyal. He also presented these awards in the district category to Peerzada Nisar Ahmad, Mrs. Hafifa Ashai, Mr. M. A. Rather, Mrs. Mehmooda Hafiz, Mr. G.N. Gashroo, Mrs. Rafiqa Bano, Mr. M.Y. Bhat, Mrs. Farida Akhter, Mr. Jalal-ud-Din, Mrs. Marium Jan, Mr. Hafiz-ullah, Mrs. Neelam Jabeen, Mr. Tsering Dorjey, Mr. Diskit Spazez, Haji Abdul Sattar and Mrs. Zohra Parveen. Mr. Azad also presented mementos and certificates to children showing outstanding performance. On this occasion student of various educational institutions presented colorful cultural programmes. Senior officers, educationists, teachers and students were present on the occasion among others.. |
