Govt warns teachers to desist from constructing school buildings | No ‘bogus’ degree holder will be selected for teacher posts | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 11: Warning the teachers to desist from constructing school buildings themselves, state government has decided to terminate services of those teachers and heads of schools who fail to improve the results in board exams. Sources told KNS that the government has taken serious note of reports that some teachers, zonal education officers and other officials of the department were involved in construction of school buildings themselves to make money. They said the services of the teachers in whose schools there will be zero percent result for three consecutive years will be terminated. Talking to KNS Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed confirmed that government has taken such decision. “The department will give two notices to such teachers in first and second year and warn them to improve the performance. If the teacher fails to improve the result in third year also he will be terminated without any further notice,” he added. However, Peerzada claimed that there has been a considerable improvement in academics in government schools from last few years. “But we have to achieve a lot. Approximately two lakh students have joined government schools after withdrawing from private schools this year, which is an indication, that education standard in government run schools is showing a positive improvement,” he added. The Minister said that stipend of ReT teachers would be increased soon special incentives would be given to those teachers who work in far-flung areas. Regarding release of teacher selection list, Peerzada said, “The selection process is over, and the lists will be published soon. However, there are some candidates who have acquired degrees from bogus universities from outside state.” The Education minister made it clear that only those degrees would be entertained by the SSB which are issued by the universities and colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. It may be mentioned here that SSB Chairman B D Baghat recently stated that only degrees issued by Jammu and Kashmir universities and IGNOU, DOEACC and MANUU will be considered for selection.
