‘Tree-talk’ held in Almond Villa | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 11 (KNS): Despite heavy rain in the area adjoining Shankracharya and Nehru Park, tree lovers assembled in the orchard of Almond villa here during 55th series of ‘tree-talk’ Initiating the discussion on ‘tree talk’ organizer O P Sharma said that Almond Villa is a royal structure with a lush green fruit orchard next to enchanting Dal lake in the backdrop of majestic Zabarban mountain. Additional PCCF Abdul Razak Khan while speaking on the occasion appreciated the contribution of Dogra Kings who introduced such rare trees as Pistacio, Hazelnuts and Afghani Grapes in the orchards. “The kings had the vision to establish game reserves and enacted rules and regulations to conserve wildlife,” he said that it goes to the credit of then CCF H S Pathania who had the vision and created Shankracharya forest on the barren hill slopes. Conservator Forests Manzoor Hussain said Pari Mahal is also associated with Dara Shikoh, in addition a Dara Shikoh garden which stands established at Bijbehara in Anantnag. While referring to native and exotic fruit germplasm in Kashmir, he lamented that ‘we have cut many valuable fruit trees from Shiraz Garden where present day Tulip Garden is established.’
