Wildlife Jammu organize Education & Awareness camp at village Karla

Jammu, Sep 11: Continuing its effort to minimize man-wild animal conflict through awareness and education the Department of Wildlife Protection Jammu organized an Education & Awareness camp at village Karla in Patnitop near Sudhmahadev Conservation Reserve on September 10.The villagers from the adjoining areas including school children and their teachers and wildlife staff participated in the programme. The school children from Govt.Middle School Lower Kerlah and Govt Girls Middle School upper Kerlah also took part in a saminar held during this programme .

Prominent among the locals who participated and spoke on the occasion included PuranChand, SarpanchKerla-Patnitop, Mohd.Iqbal Fevrah, Mohd.Fareed, Krishan Lal Thakkar, Shankar Singh, Anis Mohd and Mohan Lal. The camp was organized in association with a NGO viz ,Socio-Economic and Education Aid Society (SEEAS).

Upender Pachnanda spoke about the cause of man-wild animal conflicts occurring near forests & Protected Areas and suggested ways to avert such incidents and save human life as well as protect Wildlife. He explained that children and women are the soft targets of leopards, bears and monkeys and they should be very alert and vigilant while going to schools or for grazing in forest or its fringes. He sought the co-operation and participation of local communities in protecting forests and wildlife.

Tahir Shawl, Wildlife Warden Jammu spoke about the importance of reaching out to the stake holders through organizing such programmes in remote forest areas, in and around wildlife protected areas and forests. He highlighted the causes of the growing man-animal conflict and advised the local communities and school children to observe utmost care and follow the Do’s and Dont’s issued by the as precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident which may lead to loss of human life or live stock. He said the main cause of the conflict is the fast habitat of wild life and depletion of natural resources due to burgeoning human population, unplanned development, biotic interference and change in land use pattern.
H.C.Katoch Gen.Secretary SEEAS and Waji Rafiqui Wildlife Range Officer Udhampur also interacted with the people and stressed on the safety of local residents and wildlife by advocating observance of precautionary measures and protection of forests.
The Wildlife Division Jammu has launched vigorous man-animal conflict awareness campaign from last year in and around various wildlife sanctuaries like Mansar-Surinsar, Jasrota, Nandni, Ramnagar(Jammu) to sensitize people to manage and minimize the conflict by holding awareness camps, installing hoardings and boards, distributing posters,broachers,stickers and banners. The Do’s and Don’ts Spots are regularly been broadcast in Gogri, Dogri and Hindi/Urdu languages through Radio Kashmir Jammu/Prasarbarti.
Sadia Shamim of class 7th,miss Anita Kumari of class 8th and Zaid Mushtaq of class 7th of Govt.Middle School ,Upper Kerlah bagged Ist,2nd and 3rd positions respectively in the symposium.
