| JU goes Hi-Tech, introduces WI-FI technology, Intranet facility in next phase | | | 
JAMMU | DEC 4 Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), Prof. Amitabh Mattoo inaugurated the prestigious WI-FI technology in the University campus in a function held at Computer Sciences Seminar Hall this evening. With the introduction of this wireless technology JU has now entered into the class of some elite Universities of India having the similar kind of facility. In its first phase, the facility has been extended to the entire HoD’s and some of the senior professors. And in the later phases the facility would be extended to all the faculty members, scholars and the students. Inaugurating the technology, Mattoo congratulated the Computer Sciences Department for successfully introducing this latest technology in the campus. He assured that within the next two months most of the computerization process in the campus would be completed. He also urged upon the users to utilize the facility to its maximum potential. Mattoo also expressed hope that wireless technology would be soon introduced for the hostel boarders. Earlier, Prof. G S Sambyal, Registrar JU briefed the gathering about this Wireless technology. He informed that Wireless technology would work in parallel to the existing fibre optical. Seamless roaming facility, which would enable the user to use this technology anywhere within the campus, is a high point of WI-FI, which will put the name of JU in the elite list of Universities possessing such a facility. He also informed that JU is now the only University in the North to cover the entire campus with seamless roaming. 24x7 hour’s WI-FI will provide access to the users through Centralised Manageable Wireless Network using user level authentication, accounting and authorization. He further said that Intranet facility would also be introduced in the campus very shortly.
