KISHTWAR, Sept 11: Investigating agencies and media have been slammed by the parents of the youth detained in connection with the Delhi high court terror email traced to global internet cyber cafe in the town here. Ashwani Kumar, an employee of the cyber cafe, and Shoaib Mushtaq (18) were detained after the email was traced to Kishtwar.
Ashwani's father Hukum Chand, who runs a teastall here, said his son was not an employee of the cyber cafe as was being claimed by police and media.
He said cyber cafe owner Mehmood Khawaja was a regular visitor to his shop. "As my son was interested in doing a course in computer education, Khawaja promised to teach him if he sat in the shop in his absence," he added. Ashwani started going to the cyber cafe over a month back. Khawaja taught him computers and did not charge anything from him. In return, Ashwani managed the cyber cafe in his absence, Hukum said.
He said his son had no involvement in the crime and he failed to understand why police had kept him in custody.Shoiab's father Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh and mother Taslima Begum strongly criticized media for giving "wrong" report that their son had confessed to the crime. They said before telecasting it, the media should have verified the news from the investigating agencies. Though they said their son was innocent, they asked the agencies to book him in case he was found involved in the crime.
Seven persons, including two teenagers, were still in police custody. There is great resentment among the people due to the alleged random detention of school and college students by security agencies for questioning. Sharik Khawar Butt (16) and Abid Hussain Bhawani (15), both students of 11th class, were picked up because they occasionally visited the cyber cafe.
Abid's father Attaullah Bhawani said three policemen came to their house at Chinar Gali yesterday and took his son along with them for some verification but he had not been released till late tonight.
He said when he tried to meet his son at DPL here, he was not allowed. Sharik's father
Mohammad Rafi Butt was also confident about the innocence of his son.Meanwhile, the 3-member NIA team left Kishtwar today without any making any success in the case. The team, however, carried with it some hard disks collected by police after raids at the residences of college and school students, including a CPU seized from theresidence of Sharik. Some surrendered militants were also questioned by the team members. Meanwhile, Sohaib Mushtaq Sheikh and Ashiq Hussain were today released from police custody.
