Excise Commissioner reviews deptt’s functioning | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 12-Exicse Commissioner, Vineeta Gupta, today reviewed performance of the department in a meeting of senior officers held here today. All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers from various ranges of the state participated in the meeting. Reviewing the progress for the month of August 2011, it was noted with satisfaction that Rs.62.36 crore have been recovered during August this year which is Rs.13.09 crore more than that recovered during the previous year in August, 2010. Cumulatively, the department has earned Rs.52.03 crore more as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. As far as enforcement activities are concerned, during the month of August, 2011, in Jammu division, 2 cases of willow clefts and one case of Bhuki weighing 41 kg has been detected at Toll Post Lakhanpur. Besides, the department has also collected a fine of Rs.1.95 lakh from the defaulters in Jammu division. The department has also destroyed Bhang (cannabis plants) over an area of 1496 kanal in Kashmir during the month of August 2011. Ms Gupta directed the officers to conduct regular raids to eradicate the menace of bootlegging and manufacture of illicit liquor besides destruction of Bhang.
