DG Prisons inspects Central Jail, District Jail Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 12- Director General of Prisons, Navin Agarwal, held a meeting with the Superintendents of Jails of Jammu province and discussed elaborately security and other administrative issues. The Superintendents gave a detailed view of the functioning of their respective jails and also highlighted the problems being faced by them. Agarwal assured the Superintendents that their problems and demands will be looked into for redressal. He emphasized the need of initiating reformative steps for better functioning of the prisons. He stressed upon the Superintendents to put in their best efforts to ensure an attitudinal change in the minds of the jail inmates so that they can become good human beings after being released from the jail. There should be regular counseling for the inmates and classes held using services of psychologists. Agarwal visited District Jail Jammu where he had a round of the barracks, interaction with the inmates. The inmates expressed satisfaction over the facilities being extended to them in the jails. Instructions with regard to repairs to some bathrooms, barracks including the staff barrack and raising a pre-fabricated hut for CRPF staff, were issued to the technical staff. The Superintendent District Jail was asked to identify the location for staff mess and start it to facilitate the jail staff. It was asserted that the records of the jail should be computerized to make information readily available. The DG also paid a visit to Central Jail Jammu, where he appreciated the performance of Prisoners Pipe Band. He interacted with the inmates and took stock of the vocational trainings going on in the jail in different trades, which would help them earning their livelihood after their release.
