Twelve Injured in Clash at Police Recruitment Rally | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar | Nearly a dozen persons, including four policemen, were injured today in a clash after hundreds of candidates at a police recruitment rally turned violent in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, official sources said.
The clash erupted when disappointed candidates started shouting slogans and pelted stones amid allegations of favouritism during the special recruitment rally at Chadoora tehsil, 13 km from here, they said.
Police initially used batons to disperse the protesters but later fired teargas shells to bring the situation under control, they said.
Four policemen and eight protesters received minor injuries in the clash, they said.
The clash, however, failed to disrupt the recruitment drive which ended with the selection of candidates.
Earlier, police had launched a special recruitment drive this year to provide employment to unemployed educated youth which has attracted tremendous response with thousands of aspirants queuing up to get jobs in the force.
