Khoda Inaugurates 8th North Zone Sports Festival at Baramulla | Chairs meeting to discuss law and order | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER12: The Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda inaugurated 8th North Zone Sports Festival at Government Degree College, Baramulla this afternoon. The 25 days long Festival is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police in which more than 1000 sports personnel and athletes are participating. Khoda while addressing the inaugural function said that the first festival of the tournament was organised by North Kashmir Range Police in the year 2000 and the festival is aimed to inspire the youth of the Range towards sports. He said that JKP under its Civic Action Programme has been organising various sports tournaments across the State, besides other cultural activities, providing a platform to the sports loving youth to excel in different games. He said that the youth of the state are showing keen interest in the sports activities and hoped that they would prove their talent in these events which would pave way for their entry at national and international level. The DGP lauded the people of the area, who had gathered to witness the inaugural function and different sports events held at Government Degree College. He said that the cooperation of the people has encouraged the organisation to conduct such festivals in other districts of the state. He also appreciated the organisers for conducting the tournament and facilitating participation of youth in the festival at a large scale. Earlier Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Muneer Ahmed Khan gave details of the tournament and said that in all 186 teams from all districts of the Range are participating in different events of the festival. He said that more than 500 athletes are also participating in various athletics. The Sports Festival would be played at different venues in North Range including Sopore and Baramulla. Teams representing different areas of the Range would play in Football, Volleyball, Handball, Cricket, Hockey, Kabadi, Kho kho and Badminton. 22 girl teams are participating in Kho Kho event of the festival. At the inaugural function cultural items were presented by children of educational institutions and the people enjoyed these cultural items. Senior citizens of the area appreciated the initiative of Jammu and Kashmir Police taken for the promotion of the sports culture in the state. At the inaugural function Additional Directors General of Police, K.Rajendra Kumar and Dr. Ram Lubhaya, GOC 9 Infantry Division, Inspectors General of Police, S.M.Sahai and Rouf-ul-Hassan, Senior Congress Leader G.R Kar, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Deputy Inspector General of Police, A.Q Manhas, SSP Mr.V.K.Birdi, Superintendent of Police, Bashir Ahmed Khan, Dr. Haseeb Mugal and Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir were present. The DGP also chaired a meeting of officers at Baramulla to discuss law and order situation in the Range. He sought reports from the officers about the prevailing situation in the Range. The meeting also discussed various matters including alternate accommodation, mobility and deployment. Later on the DGP commissioned officers Mess at Baramulla. The two storey Mess was constructed by Police Construction Division in a record period, said the DGP.
