ATM card thief held at Vijaypur
9/13/2011 12:11:38 AM
JAMMU: A youth, who was alleged to have stolen the ATM card of a woman at Ramgarh and withdrawn Rs 40,000 from her account, was today arrested by police.
He was identified as Rampal, son of Banarasi Lal of Rampura, Vijaypur. He worked as guard at the ATM.
Police said on August 26 last, Talpinder Kour, wife of Harbinder Singh of Abtal, Ramgarh, went to the J&K Bank ATM at Ramgarh and withdrew Rs 10,000 from her account using her ATM card.
However, while counting the money, she dropped her card on the floor which was picked up by Rampal.
Police said Rampal did not return the card to the woman and later allegedly withdrew Rs 40,000 from another ATM at Vijaypur from her account.
When Talpinder came to know about the withdrawal, she lodged a complaint with the Ramgarh police station.
While probing into the incident, police arrested Rampal and recovered the money he had fraudulently withdrawn from the woman's account.
A case under sections 454 and 380 of RPC was registered against him at Ramgarh police station.
