Corporators getting disillusioned with BJP….? | Tide of trouble not yet over in party | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 12: Notwithstanding the party's pro active role as main opposition party in Jammu whipping up key issues of corruption, Afzal Guru, discrimination once again to the hilt, the tide of trouble is yet to be over in BJP. The party might have been able to 'overcome' the turbulent phase that shook it politically three months back, the internal problems have once again started resurfacing, parting away of a corporator on Sunday being the fresh jolt it received. The party leadership may not attach any significance to this development, choosing to paint it as something normal in politics. But the fact of the matter remains with Shubh Chander Verma calling it a day with BJP, the number of corporators parting ways with the party goes up to three, two more already having resigned few months back. Earlier it was a female corporator Raj Rani who won on BJP ticket only to quit some 8 months back and resign from the party to join rival one. Kashmir based regional party. One more corporator Arun Kumar has never attended any party function over last two years is said to have left the party, disillusionment being the common reason , felt on various counts by these corporators. One more hard fact remains that the corporator who quit BJP two days back is said to be having a sound public and political footing in the ward and area he comes from and that he joined none other than the party's main rival Congress. That Congress welcomed him in its fold warmly was explicit from the fact that his joining function was among others attended by Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla. Congress had apparently all the reasons to 'embrace' the corporator, Corporation polls scheduled early next year by the government. However, even as BJP is trying to emerge as a reenergetic, resurgent political force, in view of the wave of disgruntlement and disillusionment spreading fast among its corporators, it needs some introspection. Reliable sources say one of the main cause of this disillusionment taking the shape of resentment among properly elected representatives is the 'unwarranted' indulgence of some senior leaders of the party who are pushing and promoting their 'own' people in the areas where these elected corporators have managed some footing over the last three years now. This is not only being seen as ' political nepotism' but also threat to their political future and survival by the incumbent party corporators, sources added. It is pertinent to mention that BJP had clinched as many as 25 seats out of a total House of 75 in the last Corporation elections on account of which the party managed to elect its Mayor three times , a record in the election to the coveted post of Mayors set by its leader Kavinder Gupta. However, the order is not same nor is the spirit among the corporators same as it was at the time of making it to Corporation. The dent of disappointment has also been added by the cross voting episode in LC polls, a political jolt from which the entire party has yet to overcome fully. All this has added to gains of the Congress and slant of the corporators towards the ruling party is therefore justified, more so when the BJP leadership is not trying to rectify the things and remove the grouse where it exists. |
