BJP makes issue out of "nothing"; anguished over thinning of security to its state president

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 13: The state BJP, which has in the recent past miserably failed to highlight the plight of Jammu people and the issues concerning them, today tried to make an issue out of almost nothing when it said its cadres were anguished over the thinning of the security cover of their party president.
The issue does not seem to be so big but the BJP treated it as if it needed a serious discussion like a major matter. The party called a press conference, asking the government to justify its action.
The government has withdrawn the state BJP chief's two out of three residential guards and one out of three PSOs. The party feels that this government action has no rationale. But its "think tanks" too seemed to be short of any rationale when they said the issue had become the "matter of self-respect and honour for the party".
The party linked the issue with its self-respect and honour but did not comment on why the state BJP chief needed more security and if his life would be in danger if his security cover was thinned.
The party took this "non-issue" very seriously but it did not make any custodial death in Jammu, discrimination in selection of jobs in government departments and many more such issues as the matter of self-respect and honour. Even if it took one, or two such issues, it left them half-way and did not take them to their logical conclusion.
Also, the party did not agitate for punishment to the police sub-inspector who allegedly created curcumstances that forced a female B.Ed. college student to jump into Chenab at Pul-Doda few months back.
The party also did not speak when a goldsmith's both arms were broken by a former Janipura police station SHO some time back.
The party also did not make any issue when two girls jumped into Chenab in Kishtwar following their "capture" by police while they exchanged pleasantries with a male classmate on the bank of the river.
Under such circumstances, BJP cannot claim to be a party which represents Jammu region. Also, some of its leaders prefer to dine with those who are known for their anti-Jammu stance.
The party, which was once known for its proximity with general public, is now known for making directives from their cozy drawing rooms and party headquarters.
In the press conference, chief spokesperson and national executive member, Dr Jitendra Singh said that discrimination in providing adequate security to BJP leaders and office bearers had been for long an issue of concern and complaint.
He also described as absolutely outrageous the state administration's refusal to give any security to the BJP's Kashmir provincial president Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir.
He said it was a matter of serious concern that Kashmiri separatist groups had been provided high category security by the National Conference-Congress coalition government.
Dr Jitendra said India was the only country in the world and Jammu and Kashmir the only state in India, where the perpetrators of seccessionism, militancy and anti-India activism were provided state security while those fighting to uphold the soverignty of Indian Republic were left exposed to the threat of life and property from militants.
He also questioned the propriety of the members of state assembly and its leader (chief minister) who were functioning under the oath of the constitution but were still ready to debate the constitutional validity of verdict on Afzal Guru and order repression of nationalist demonstrations staged by BJP activists in favour of the Supreme Court verdict.
