Early Times Report
Devsar (Kulgam), Sept 13: Unwittingly maligning the towering image of Sher-e-Kashmir, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, the Minister of State for Home, Nisar Aslam Wani Tuesday said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has the distinction of being the first ever chief Minister to seek political solution of Kashmir issue in a democratic spirit to establish permanent peace and normalcy in the state. He was addressing public meetings at Devsar and Qazigund this morning.
Wani needs to study the history a fresh. Does he know why Sher-e-Kashmir was arrested and dethroned on August 9, 1953? Fortunately some members of the constituent assembly are still alive. Wani better go to them to set records right.
Apparently realizing his blunder, Wani Nasir said the people of the state are greatly indebted to Sher-i- Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who in a landmark and historic decision initiated land reforms making thousands of land tillers land owners across the state. He said the concept of free education, healthcare were the ideas of this iconic popular leader to universalize education and develop society free from disease, hunger and exploitation.
He said the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah has succeeded to a large extent in convincing the Centre about the need to take political initiatives to sort out the problem for good and consolidate peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister said with the cooperation of people, the government ensured peaceful summer this year, which he said has helped to provide necessary momentum to the developmental programme launched for speedy progress and economic prosperity of the State.
Asserting that peace was pre-requisite to give fillip to the development programme, Nasir urged the people to discourage anti-peace elements for sustained tourism and business climate in the State.
Regarding the demands of the area, the Minister directed the executing agencies to complete the Gund water supply scheme within the shortest possible time. He said a fire station will also be setup at Devsar. He directed the executive officer Municipal committee Devsar to make proposal for the construction of shopping complex on its own land in PPP mode to facilitate people.
