Symposium on “Parthenium an Environmental Hazard” organized

JAMMU, Sep 14:-A Symposium on “Parthenium an Environmental Hazard” was organized in Government High School, Potha by Indian Council for Enviro- Legal Action J&K Chapter, in which students from adjoining schools, Middle School Godar Mal, High School, Androlla and Middle School, Godar also participated.
The participants delivered lecture on eradication of this deadly toxic weed causing allergic dermatitis and pulmonary ailments in human beings and Live stock.
Apart from this, parthenium grass is competing with other crops and pasture grasses and diminishing their growth as a consequence of which crop production is lowered.
Several students and locals reported the milk of animals getting bitter taste if in scarcity of grass, the animals feed on it and milk production is also lowered.
Local populace, newly elected Sarpanches and Panches and elite class people also participated in the Symposium and shared their thoughts.
Everybody took oath under the aegis of Ashok Sharma former legislator and Convenor ICELA J&K Chapter to contribute their bit to eradicate the weed. Ashok Kumar Sharma, the Chief Guest, while explaining the harmful effects of parthenium grass said that this obnoxious weed has become our national enemy after corruption and urged upon the teachers, students and general masses to join hand, make everybody aware, sensitized and action oriented to fight it out. He thanked Dr. Yash Paul Sharma, the expert for sparing his valuable time, who had come all the way from Jammu and demonstrated the parthenium eradication techniques to the participants.
Dr. Y.P. Sharma retired Assistant Commandant demonstrated the methods of eradication of flowering Parthenium plants, just after rain and replied all the queries raised by audience and assured to visit Rajouri to demonstrate the various feasible techniques to eradicate this weed from Rajouri and State in a phased manner.
