FPSJ demands judicial inquiry into frequent road accidents | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 14:-President, Foundation for Peace and Social Justice, Ashok Kumar Sharma has demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court Judge into the repeated road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming hundreds of precious lives, to enquire into the causes and fix responsibility for such man-made parameters. Expressing grief and serious concern over Digdole matador accident of yesterday afternoon, Sharma expressed his surprise that how the traffic authorities have allowed to ply a matador on the National Highway carrying more than 40 passengers. He demanded that all those responsible for dereliction of duty must be brought to book. He suggested that all the old model and Tata 407 matadors with single tyres at the rear, which are mostly plying on the hilly roads and mostly get turn turtle, be immediately replaced with double tyre vehicles besides effectively curbing overloading and carrying of merchandise on the roof of matadors, for ensuring safety of the travelling public. The Foundation for Peace and Social Justice has also urged for payment of ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 lacs in favour of the next of the kins of the accident victims, Rs. 2 lacs to those seriously injured and rupees fifty thousand to those who suffered minor injuries in the accident. He also stressed that a comprehensive transport policy be taken into place in the State to streamline the entire system with regard to issuance of route permits, driving licenses, passing of vehicles and enforcing traffic rules and regulations etc. Sharma expressed sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured in Digdole road accident.
