Kashmiri Pandits observe Martyrs'' Day; demand ''homeland'' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sep 14:-Alleging that there was an atmosphere of "suffocation" in the camps meant for Kashmiri Pandits here, Panun Kashmir today demanded a homeland for the minority community in the Valley. "There is an atmosphere of suffocation in the camps in Jammu. Kashmiri Pandits will fight this repression and uphold national interests," said Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman of Panun Kashmir -- a body of displaced Kashmiri Pandits. Chrungoo led a demonstration of over 200 activists on ''Martyrs Day'' today, to mark their forced exodus from Kashmir Valley in 1990. The activists were also carrying pictures of the community members killed by militants during the unrest in the Valley. "Observing Martyrs'' Day is not only a dedication to the memory of those who fell to the bullets of terrorists, but also to the glorious history and heritage of an ancient community," Chrungoo said. Despite the situation being far from normal, the state government is pushing back Kashmiri Hindus using employment as coercive bait only to hoodwink the world, he alleged. The activists also remembered late Kashmiri Pandit leader Tikka Lal Taploo on the occasion.
