| Vyas holds meet with small businessmen | | | JAMMU DEC 03 The problems of small dhabas and halwais who are not registered with the DIC and are engaged in small business were discussed at a joint meeting convened by Commissioner Secretary Finance B B Vyas. The Commissioner Commercial Tax Kh.Bashir Ahmed, President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ram Sahai and the representatives of the business community of Katra, Udhampur, Reasi and Kud attended the meeting organized by District Dhabas and Halwai Association Ramesh Chander Dogra.Highlighting the problems of small Dhabas and Halwais, Sahai informed the meeting that these small businessmen are being compelled to get themselves registered under VAT Act and wanted their on the spot registration at tehsil level without imposing any penalty. He also pleaded for sympathetic consideration to the genuine demands of the traders who are mostly uneducated without any resource to keep proper accounts required under VAT regime and demanded that the eligible establishments should be registered under TOT, a Chamber handout said.While explaining the need to augment state resources for development and welfare of common people, Commissioner Commercial Tax Department said that the government is seized of the problems presented in the meeting and every effort would be made so that no small trader is harassed or put to any problem.Vyas said that Chamber has already raised these points in their pre-budget memorandum forcefully before the Finance Minister and the government would take some decision in this regard shortly.
